Your request has been passed to me for reply. The number of people employed by DVLA in England, Wales and Scotland, by country, is as follows.
England 1496
Wales 4825
Scotland 156
Total 6477These figures represent the position as at 31 March 2006 and are expressed as full-time equivalents to take account of local part-time working arrangements.
As you can see, the vast majority are employed in Wales. Bearing in mind the vast majority of UK drivers are English, an English DVLA would create good employment opportunities, almost 4000 jobs extra jobs.

I mean is it so surprising that the vast majority of the DVLA employies are Welsh; duh, the DVLA is based in Swansea, and unless it has recently relocated I am pretty sure that Swansea is in Wales, although I may have to go and check that in my atlas… I mean was it necessary to ask such a “stupid” question, when just sitting down and applying a little brain time to the matter would have come up with the answer that the majority of the DVLA employies are bound to be Welsh. I mean, I ask you, how can people who ask such assinine questions ever hope to be taken seriously in the matter of shouting for an English Parliament?

Yes, it does make them look stupid and well done for that, but we don’t want you looking stupid do we Numptie, especially not on your birthday (dare you to delete that…). Since there is no way that the DVLA, whether in Swansea or elsewhere, will know whether their employees are “scottish”, “english”, “welsh” or whatever (there is no definition of these “affiliations” which can pass muster), I suspect this refers only to the places in which they are employed. You rightly point out that the vast majority of DVLA employees are in Swanswea, of course, and doubtless most of them are British. And indeed probably a good number of them have always lived and resided in Wales and some of them will have even voted for devolution in 1997. But lots of other DVLA employees are doubtless situated right across the UK in the various test centres and probably other administrative centres. Also, aren’t driving examiners DVLA employees? Hence the figures for England, Scotland, etc. A good point, but best to distinguish between the meaningless category in what remains a single state of “welsh”, “scottish” or “english”, and focus instead on a good old fashioned piece of jealousy on the part of your mates at the CoSG. I presume they want all UK-wide agencies to be located in England, probably preferably in the south east, but doubtless they would be the first to squeal if another lovely piece of english countryside were to be concreted over to accommodate housing for 4000 extra DVLA employees and their families, once the DVLA is relocated to Godalming or somewhere like that…

Thank you BW for putting that so eloquently, my eloquent reason for not pointing all of this out is that I couldn’t be arsed to pander to such blatant drivel, as I suspect that people like the author of this piece of rubbish would have had many problems understanding what I was talking about!

I think they have a fair point actually. civil servants should be equally distributed accoring to population distributon thus we should move some of the swansea DVLA to Godalming as proposed bt numptie, Nr 11 Downing Street to Shetland and half of the faslane based trident submarine fleet to the serpentine.

It seems that without the COSTG forum you would not have much to write about.The case for an English Parliament is now in the public arena and will not go away.
I would have thought all you people wpould be pleased that England has woken up and are about to help Scotland on its way to Independence.No pleasing some people.

Without the CoSG Forum I would have plenty to write about! No on is denying that the “case for an English Parliamant” is in the public arena; but what is in debate is whether it will happen in the way that people like those who populate such forums as the CoSG woukld like it to, and I happen to think that it will not. My posts have nothing to do with England having “woken up and are about to help Scotland on its way to Independence”; have suffered any amount of abusive and insulting comments from these people I have set out to portray the hypocrisy, bigotry and downright racism of some of those who are attracted to such forums, it just happens that the CoSG forum provides the best ammunition. I agree there is no pleasing some people; and when you try to enter into a reasoned debate with them you wind up being called moron, dickhead, numptie and many other terms of abuse by people who can’t even be bothered to engage their brain befored opening their collective mouth!

I rest my case - it is pointless trying to have a reasoned debate with people who a) choose to hide behind anonymous and b) resort to childish and insulting remarks like that above. If Anonymous had bothered to do a little digging and follow some of the links in my posts he/she would have known the facts; however he/she decides to make up his/her own mind based on a smalla amount of information and then resort to the sort of assinine remark that proves what I have been saying all along…
