The English Abroad

Greetings from Malta folks; island of copious sunshine and excessive heat!

BW and I have not yet been here twenty four hours but we have already had experience of the English abroad, loud, arrogant and rude to the point of being unbelievable. But then what more should one expect from the “shell suit” brigade; those who come to such places to get rat arsed, lie by the pool (or on the beach) in the sun and who can’t even be bothered to explore the locality or to find out something about the local people or the history and culture of the place they are visiting. One has to ask why they have to come to such beautiful places and spoil the experience for everyone else when they could do what they are doing at home and much more cheaply with the aid of the offie and a sunbed!

Nuff said! BB for one will not let such ignorant people spoil his enjoyment of a relaxing tour of this magical island…

The Sanity of English Nationalism

It is refreshing to find someone who believes in English Nationalism that is prepared to enter into honest debate without descending into the use of insults, inherent racism etc. etc. Here I present a comment that was made today on another topic on this blog:-

“What Englishman wouldn’t stick up for his country when someone is attacking it, like Scotsman SNP. I don’t know why some Scots and Englishman hate each other. Jesus England, Scotland and Wales have co-existed in peace for many years why spoil it now!!!

We shouldn’t fight, Scotland has it own laws, can pretty much pass their own laws, Scotland basically govern themselves, but England doesn’t have it own parliament, the parliament in London is the British Parliament.

I know what I’m about to say is going to sound extreme, but there will be a massive war, im not on about the cold war with Russia and America that is going on now, I mean the West vs the Middle East, how much tension has been built up over the years, most of you might not agree but its my view and I got friends and people who agree with that view.”

Hope you don’t mind Ben but I tidied it up a little but did not change a word.

I have to say that I agree in principle with a lot of what he says; however we have to be very careful in going down the path of total devolution, especially in England! If there is to be an “English Parliament” then it has to be thought through very carefully, and NOT by those hotheads of the English Nationalist movement, with all of the problems that they would cause. Such an institution MUST take all of the regions of England into account if we are not to have this same argument in the future, only this time at a regional level, and this would be disastrous. Any parliament for England has to be just that “for England”, and not just pandering to the South East and the Home Counties; then maybe, just maybe, the English would appreciate some of the problems being faced by the Scottish Parliament right now.

Ben makes an excellent point when he says “Jesus England, Scotland and Wales have co-existed in peace for many years why spoil it now!!!” I agree, why spoil it now? But contrary to what the majority of the English nationalists would have you believe, it is not the Scots who want to break the Union, it is Labour politicians both in Westminster and in Holyrood; not that there is a lot of difference as the Labour politicians in Holyrood are no more than puppets of Westminster anyway. yes, there is a movement for Independence in Scotland, but does this necessarily mean the break up of the union, I am not convinced that it does; I think that with an Independent Scotland there is a possibility for the close ties with that nation south of the border to be equally close but just on a slightly different basis.

Yes I know that I had said I was giving up on this blog; however when people like Ben come along with the ability to hold a reasoned argument it is quite refreshing. So I am BACK!
