At Last a Voice of Commonsense!

I have just read this in The Guardian, and it is refreshing to read something that is born of common sense; oh, there will be those who accuse Tim Martin of blatantly using this topic to advertise Wetherspoons. However, my advice is to read what he is actually saying, and I think that most people would agree with me that it does make sense. I am of a generation who did not find it difficult to get served in the local at the age of 15, even though the barman knew me and exactly how old I was. This was where I learnt respect for alcohol, seeing those old enough to be there legally getting rat arsed but not being allowed the same privilege myself as the barman was quite strict about what, and how much, I could drink. Now, as this article points out, due to the authoritarian atittude of government

The result was a blind eye turned to the real problem of teenagers drinking on the beach or in town centres, armed with drinks like vodka purchased from supermarkets or off-licences.

Now, I know which choice I would prefer to see happening, and that is that kids are welcomed in pubs where an eye can be kept on what and how much they drink as opposed to kids drinking alcohol in public places, probably bought for them by older peers, with absolutely no control over what or how much they drink. Maybe it is about time that politicians got off of their fat, drunken arses and did what needs to be done with the idea of the nanny state, flush it down the bloody toilet.
